‘Jallikattu’ – India’s official entry for the Oscars

The 2019 released, Malayalam action film, ‘Jallikattu’, directed by Lijo Jose Pellissery, is selected as India’s official entry for the Oscar Awards in the Best International Feature Film category.
Director Lijo Jose was known for his distinct approach and the technical aspects of his movies are well ahead from others.
His last released, ‘Jallikattu’ is also a very different kind of movie which portrays a remote village comprising people of interesting characters. The movie depicts the incidents and accidents taking place while the complete village is trying to catch a violent buffalo, escaped from a butcher. Also few adversaries are settling their old scores amidst the chaos.
Before theatrical release in Kerala, ‘Jallikattu’ was premiered at the Toronto International Film festival and the film was highly acclaimed.
Though many movies from India were proposed by FFI till now, for Oscar Awards, none of our movies received the award yet. Only 3 movies from India were included in the Oscar Nomination list so far. They were ‘Mother India’ (1957), ‘Salaam Bombay’ (1988) and ‘Lagaan’ (2001).
‘Jallikattu’ is the third Malayalam movie selected for the Academy Awards after ‘Guru’ (1997) and ‘Adaminte Makan Abu’ (2011). The 93rd Academy Awards function is on 25th April 2021 at Los Angeles, California. Let’s hope for the best this time.
