Soorarai Pottru – Review
‘Soorarai Pottru’ is an excellent presentation by director Sudha Kongara with the best ever performance of Suriya, inspiring the youngsters to chase their dreams and strive for achievements.
The movie is written and directed by Sudha Kongara, produced by Suriya along with Guneet Monga starring Suriya, Paresh Rawal, Aparna Balamurali, Urvashi and Mohan Babu.
The movie is about Maaran, a youngster from a remote town, forced by situations, to dream of launching an airline at an affordable cost to common men. And the movie, dramatically describes the struggles of Maaran and his determination in crossing the hurdles to achieve his dream.

Bommi (Aparna Balamurali) is on the other side with her own business ideas and funds Maara’s dreams. The romance between the two is captured so nicely. Sometimes it goes so dynamic, bringing out new ideas. The wedding scenes are also so light and bold, portraying ‘Suyamariyathai’ (not sticking to any religious customs), with the bride and the groom garlanding each other in front of their kith and kin and having some fun.
Though it is not very new, it also sets an inspiration to avoid big fat customary practices, leading to financial difficulties often. It also is very relevant to the theme of the movie as explained by Maara towards the end, that he wants to break the caste barrier and enable the majority common people to fly.
The person who always challenges Maara is the arrogant elitist Paresh Goswami (Paresh Rawal) who doesn’t want the low class to enter his airlines. Also Goswami is supported by a corrupt person in the Civil Aviation Ministry. The lack of fund along with all these troubles leads the continuous struggle of Maara but the love of Bommi and the faith of his village along with his mother (Urvasi), keeps him going.
As parents of Maara, Poo Ramu and Urvasi have exhibited their experienced acting. Aparna Balamurali has done an amazing performance in the lead role showing all emotions in her eyes. Mohan Babu as the Air force higher official, though appeared only for few minutes, deserves a Royal salute. The mind blowing songs go along with the movie and the Composer G V Prakash Kumar has scored the background music excellently adding to the emotions of the scenes.
The dialogues in some places are so simple where it could have been more powerful. The editing leads to some confusion of the locations at some places. And there are some logical loopholes as the dream of Maara is more than average.
As a whole ‘Soorarai Pottru’ is a promising and wonderful presentation by Sudha Kongara and Suriya.
